It's Done!!!!

I've finished my first painting! I didn't go to class today though i don't expect there was one anyway but i finished it on my own. What do you think? I like it just fine for a first attempt. I have all kinds of little projects in mind but the next one will be a replica of an abstract print i saw when Staci and i were out shopping.

*Update* I should add that this was painted from a photo i took on the beach of Iona, looking toward the Isle of Mull. Of course the actual mountains on Mull weren't purple and in the photo there was someone standing on the beach in front of the rocks.... but as the instructor says, it's a painting, not a photo :)

It was snowing but it seems to have let off with not a whole lot more down for now. cross yer bits that the transit is back on tomorrow. That's a double edged sword cause i have a dentist appt. in the afternoon for some major work. Ick. Better remember to pack my diskman for distraction.

I'm off down the hall to a neighbour's for coffee.

Yes it turned out quite well didn't it? The sand looks more like sand now i've shaded it. I have to cover it in a laquer to protect it. I only wish Iain were still here to see it! :\

Congrats on your first painting! I like the sand and rocks, particularly. What medium are you using?

I also picked up a paintbrush today for the first time in years, just retouching old stuff. But it felt good.

Well i signed up for an oil painting "class" through the recreation department. Only he's not actually standing in front of the class teaching. Each student has a project and he goes around and helps each person as they need it. I'm using oils and i was going to use acrylics but it seems like oils are more workable. I've never painted before but i wasn't too bad at drawing when i was a kid. The instructor actually sketched the outline of the rocks and i filled them in all brown first then put in the detail after that myself.

Not that I actually have time to paint, and I have now lost the habit of seeing/imagining things I'd like to portray and can't ever hope to.
But if I'd had a tenth of that talent my Dad wouldn't have gone at me so much about not being able to draw/paint.

It was drawn from a photograph of the Isle of Mull from a beach on Iona actually. Somewhat modified actually but it's a painting not a photo as the art instructor told me. I should update that posting to say what it was.
