Well there's a sudden turn up for the books! The Daily News is ceasing publication immediately. Bummer! It's not the best newspaper here but it's conveniently sized. It's been getting thinner and thinner, though. I guess that also puts the kibosh on the contest they are holding to offer a lucky couple the wedding of their dreams but only on a specific day that the paper chooses, with all the arrangments that they choose as well. Just this weekend readers were invited to vote for one of 10 short listed couples to win the wedding. I wonder if the staff knew this was coming or if it was a surprise this morning. The company that owns it is going to publish a free "Metro" paper instead. I doubt it will be delivered though. I'm going to look into the other local paper, which is actually the better one but it's a larger size rather than the tabloid size. If they can't deliver before 7 a.m. on weekdays, though, i'll buy it when i get to work and just get it delivered on weekends.
