First Saturday in awhile that I actually went out and about. Not that I went far really but I did go over to Pete's Frootique for a few things and stop in HMV to see what they had. Bought a few cheap dvds for G. and myself and a Christmas pressie for him. I won't say in case he reads this!

I thought about going to a movie but nothing that was easily accessible particularly appealed.

Voted online for our municipal Election. The electronic advance voting starts today for 10 days and since i've been part of this project at work, working with the evoting company and will be involved in the election night processes, it was more than my job's worth *not* to vote electronically! :)) There are people that are not confident that it's secure but we've gone over all the company's security and they've been audited for it as well and we're quite confident of their security and encryption processes in place. Last election we had about 30% of those that voted do it electronically over a 3 day window, that was our pilot project then. This time it's 10 days and we're hoping there will be a significant rise in how many people will vote because it's usually less than or barely 50% of those eligible to vote. Actual voting day is the 20th for those wanting to vote the traditional way. Mayor, Council, and School Boards.

We do a lot of preparation for it on the data side of things and i'm involved a lot on the results side of it. I will be working on election night, to be there just in case there are problems. Mainly i sit there and watch the returns come in. I have some stuff to do before the final reports are produced but that's about it if everything runs smoothly which, in the past at least, it has.

I'm going to put my request in to have my new laptop for work. My PC is long overdue for replacement and we are going with laptops this tijme because the laptops we can get now are quite good and powerful enough to run the tools we need. I won't be getting rid of my old XP machine though as there are tools that are on that which can't be installed on Windows 7 and until those old applications are replaced or rewritten, I need to have a way to fix or modify them should there be a need.

It'll take awhile to get the laptop all set up with everything though and that's a nuisance but that's the way it is. I'll be getting a fairly small one, about a 12 inch screen but it will be in a docking station and i will be hooking it up to a full size monitor, mouse and keyboard at the office. We have four or five to choose from and a couple of the PC techs have both said one of the HP models is very good so I'm going with that one. My coworker has a small Lenovo one that she is happy with and we also have a Lenovo one that has the screen that can be turned around and flipped and it turns the laptop into a tablet. I don't think i'd get a lot of use out of that but a couple of people i know have it. I don't want anything too big if i end up having to tote it around back and forth from home. I've been resisting it because they hadn't sorted out all the admin permissions and things which has made life difficult for my coworker trying to get things installed and running but they have now so I have no more excuses. We'll see what kind of aggravation I'll have to go through soon enough I guess.

XP mode in Windows 7 does a good job. You need W7 Professional or better to get it, tho'.
